Mainsail Spinnaker

SOLD March 2010

mainsail is old, like over 20 years, but it has been overhauled about 4 years ago, and i found although it is not bright white and rigid, in light or medium winds with adequate uphaul and outhaul, would beat any club boat on handicap, so it must be ok. batons included. it is marked with black snapdragon correct for a 23, sail number 10, but these can be replaced.

Reefing eyes are in place at 2 heights, but i used the boom roller system this boat had too. there is a boom cover with ties but its worn. bagged as shown

Foot =7.00m, foot = 2.93m

.

its a big main for a 23 footer, thats why it won races i guess
enough room left on the boom for outhaul tensioning, important on old sails, and corrected wrinkles you can see in earlier photos
ifitted with track slides for easy uphaul and stowing on the boom - great idea, avoids jams too

Note, the mainsail, might not be original SD dimensions, im told the original sails were red and rotten cloth, then this was purchased pre 2002 when i boiught her, but it sailed perfectly. I discovered during racing that if you pulled double tensioned the luff using the halyard, THEN the boom slide (down a few inches with your bodyweight), it stretched out nice and flat, otherwise you would get usual wrinkles. If id known that years earlier, id have saved hours! I also wrote an instruction manual procedure for all sails on the SD23, please ask

shot of it racing/filled with wind - i have removed the leather reefing ties now as troller furling was best
bow roller with mooring cleats and forestay flange s/s
spinnaker flying with pole and main - note inadequate luff anf foot tension, i only corrected later sailing

spinnaker has always had some fine mildew and local rust stains in it, but 2010 washed inspected GWO with bag, also have wood pole (original), sheets  aft blocks and cleats, halyard and halyard block. I think i even have a spare spinakker, but no details yet..n.b spinakker is huge but most of it hidden in this shot, it nearly dwarfs the huge mast - an unrivalled sight on a hot summer day in the bay! you need to enjoy kit flying, but it is possible to self steer downwind either on the beam or drop the main dead downwind.

The SD23 main -wrinkled because i havent pulled the luff and foot tight enough haha!
leeward starboard side with batons and leech cord working nicely F2 light winds leeward port side
the SPARE mainsail is too tall note its not s/n 10 , its not for an SD23 as is
